Effect of Brami Gritham on  ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a disorder characterized by a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that is frequently displayed and more severe than that typically observed in individuals at a comparable level of development. Since correlation of ADHD cannot be found in Ayurvedic Samhitas therefore, one should consider it in terms of doṣa prādhanya, which can be suggested as Vāta-pitta. The aggravation of vāta is responsible for inattention and hyperactivity and the aggravation of pitta leads to impulsivity. The Ayurvedic management should be planned to reduce vāta pitta dosha using vata pitta shamaka drugs. There was a pilot study to identify the effect of brami gritham on ADHD children. The Brahmi itself is considered as a potent drug which increases learning skills in children. Additionally, Brahmi plant resembles the cerebellum of the human brain and it promotes memory and intelligence.

According to Charaka Samhita the reference of Brami grita can be found in Chikitsa stana.

Brāhmī Ghṛtam contain four medhya drugs (medhya drugs will be having a positive effect on central nervous system [CNS]) plants viz. Brāhmī (Bacopa moneri), Vaca (Acorus calamus), Kuṣṭha (Sassurea lappa) and Śankhapuṣpī (Convolvulus pluricaulis) and all above-mentioned drugs are processed in Goghṛtam (ghee prepared from cow's milk).

Brahmi Ghritam dosage: Quarter to half teaspoon of gritha with water, usually before food, once or twice a day.

Food to avoid and have during Brahmi Ghritham –Drink hot water soon after taking Brahmi Ghritham.

Avoid cold water  / cold food stuff after taking Brami Gritham.

How Brahmi improves the brain function in children?

The botanical name of Brami is Bacopa Moneri it contains two potent chemicals, they are bacosides A and B. According to the research, it improves the transmission of impulses between nerve cells, especially in the brain. The neurobiological effects molecules were found to increase protein kinase activity and new protein synthesis, specifically in cells in the region of the brain associated with long-term memory. It also increases the level of serotonin, a brain chemical to give relaxation. Because of herb's ability to boost brain function while reducing anxiety, it is a good choice of drug which explains why it helps treat ADHD. Brami has a unique ability to invigorate mental processes while reducing the effects of stress and anxiety, which is a perfect combination of an ADHD sufferer’s attention difficulties.
