Conference to promote business potential of Ayurveda in Kochi

Kochi: A conference on ‘Business potential of Ayurveda in domestic and international markets’ will be held in Kochi on Sunday to discuss various issues facing the sector.

The conference is being organised by Ayurvedic Drug Manufacturers’ Association (ADMA), a national association representing a large number of Ayurvedic medicine manufacturers in the country.

ADMA National President, PM Varier of Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala told reporters that in the next 10 years Ayurveda industry has the potential to grow by four times.

The turnover of the industry across the country was roughly estimated at Rs 10,000 crore including Rs 800 crore from exports. This is expected to grow four times in the next 10 years, he said.

The association has direct and indirect membership of about 600 manufacturers, who represent over 80 per cent of the total commerce in the Ayurveda sector in India and exports from India.

The objectives of ADMA is to focus on safeguarding the interests of the Ayurveda manufacturers and Ayurveda as a traditional science, Anil Kumar, association Vice President of Kerala Ayurveda Ltd, said with S Sajikumarm, secretary of Dhathri Ayurveda Pvt Ltd also present in Kochi.

Propagation of Ayurveda, research and development of standards and validation studies including international extension and coordination are some of the main focal objectives.

It is the first time that such a seminar is being held in Kerala, which is globally recognized as the flourishing ground for classical Ayurveda.

Deliberations would focus on a better understanding of the emerging norm for AYUSH formulations within the country and export markets. Active interactions between regulator and industry would benefit a two-way dialogue much needed in any sector continually.

Almost 200 members of the AYUSH industry are expected to take advantage of this programme.
