The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) delegation from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) held a crucial meeting with the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), advocating for the incorporation of Ayurveda Biology as an independent subject within the UGC-NET/JRF examination. The discussion also revolved around several related aspects of the newly introduced BSc-MSc Ayurveda Biology course at JNU.
The introduction of the BSc Ayurved Biology program in 2020 at JNU aimed to foster a research-focused environment in Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical research. This initiative also sought to establish a synergistic link between traditional Ayurveda and Modern Biology, a crucial approach for comprehensive healthcare solutions. The ABVP-JNU delegation apprised the UGC Chairman of the distinctive attributes of the program. The delegation comprised ABVP-JNU University Unit Secretary Vikas Patel, ABVP Delhi's State Working Committee member Manoj Uniyal, President of the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies unit of ABVP-JNU, and students of Ayurved Biology Mukund, Gaurav, and Payal.
Vikas Patel, ABVP-JNU University Unit Secretary, emphasized, "The Ayurveda industry has evolved into a multibillion-dollar sector, offering numerous employment opportunities for students. The assurance from the Hon'ble UGC Chairman to consider our request and take appropriate steps is encouraging."
Mukund, President of the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies unit of ABVP-JNU, and a student of Ayurved Biology, highlighted, "The integrated five-year BSc-MSc course represents a pioneering venture in India, aiming to seamlessly blend the essence of Ayurvedic principles with Modern Biology. Our meeting with the Chairman also underlined the necessity of adding Ayurveda as a distinct subject within the UGC-NET/JRF examination. This would enable students to access junior research fellowships and become eligible to pursue various PhD programs across the nation."
