The much-waited dream of the ayurvedic sector is all set to become true as the proposed Ayurvedic Child and Adolescent Care and Research Centre is getting ready at Thalakkulathur. Authorities say the centre will be opened within two months.
The dream project was proposed by the department last year in a bid to use a building, along with four acres of land, which had been lying abandoned for years after an ayurvedic resort,  proposed by the Kerala Health Research and Welfare Society (KHR&WS) on the special interest of the late minister A C Shanmughadas, did not materialise.
Following reports in Express, the KHR& WS authorities handed over the land to the Department of Ayurveda.
The centre, which aims to treat various disabilities prevalent in children and adolescents, is stated to be a landmark in the medical sector of the district. Dr Sreekumar Namboothiri, Chief Medical Officer, District Ayurveda Hospital, Kozhikode, says that by dealing with the physical, psychological and behavioural problems of children and adolescents, the centre will achieve a milestone in  pediatric care.
The centre will be developed into a modern ayurvedic research centre of international standard. The draft, which details the project, has got the approval of the the Health Secretary and Ayurveda Directorate, says Sreekumar Namboothiri.
The existing building is in urgent need of revival. The repair works of the building have been entrusted to the Public Works Department and it is expected that the works will be completed in a time-bound manner, he says. A meeting of the officials concerned and the representatives of various local self-governing bodies, which will be held in Thalakkulathur on March 21, will contemplate on the implementation, he says.
