A fine of Rs 25,000 would be levied on fake ayurveda, unani practitioners in State if caught for the first time, on getting caught the second time, the fine would be Rs 2.5 lakh with an imprisonment of one year. Following which repeated offenders will be fined with an amount of Rs 5 lakh, said Health and Family Welfare Minister, UT Khader.
Addressing the media on Friday Khader further stated that it is a must for all ayurvedic, naturopathy, sidda and unani practitioners to get themselves registered under the bio-metric system. All the existing 40,000 registered Ayush doctors will have to get themselves enrolled again. This is being done to put a check on the rising number of fake doctors in the State. He said, “Making it convenient for the doctors, the procedure has been made online. All information pertaining to registration has been put up on the department website.”
The Ayurveda and Unani Doctors Association had conducted raid on 2,896 practitioners in the State, of which, case has been registered against 226 practitioners.
Meanwhile, the minister also announced that the traditional healers are exempted from registration and that they can continue with their practice as they have inherited from their ancestors.
