All India Institute of Ayurveda signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology(AIST), Japan on 7th October 2022. The MoU is aimed at capacity development, technological cooperation for academic establishment.
Initiatives by Ministry of AYUSH:
The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) is the apex institute of Ayurveda in India under the Ministry of AYUSH. With the signing of the MoU with AIST, AIIA hopes to increase the visibility of the institute’s research initiatives both domestically and internationally. AIST is a reputed and one of the largest public research organizations in Japan. AIST focuses on bridging the gap between innovative technological seeds and commercialization.
The MoU will make it possible for both nations to advance scientific cooperation and capacity building in the area of the Indian Ayurvedic system of traditional medicine. All of these initiatives will be carried out with aid from the Ministry of Ayush.
AIIA already has MoUs with the European Academy of Ayurveda, Bernstein, Germany; Western Sydney University, Australia; Graz Medical University, Austria; College of Medical, UK; London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, UK and Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Expected collaborative work areas:
The scope of activities that is intended by the participants includes research activities in the field of Ayurveda. The collaborative efforts would include studies in design and execution with the purpose of developing evidence-based guidelines. The work is expected to integrate Ayurvedic principles and practices with conventional medicine. It would also involve study about the safety standards and protocols for the use of Ayurveda in Japan.
Further, on a project to project basis, a collaborative exchange of scientists, researchers, staff and also students would be conducted. The purpose is to achieve excellence in Ayurveda with achieving scientific advances, tools and techniques.
Even during the covid-19 pandemic, a collaborative research study by Indian Institute of Technology(IIT), Delhi and AIST was conducted. They researched about the capacity of Ashwagandha as an efficient anti-COVID-19 drug.
AIST has in the past collaborated with IIT Hyderabad too for research in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
