Chandigarh, Mar 5 (PTI) The Punjab government today directed private ayurveda practitioners and Ayurveda Siddha and Unani (ASU) drug manufacturers and firms to stop putting up “objectionable advertisements” in the media.
Punjab Secretary-cum-Commissioner of AYUSH Hussan Lal said those indulging in such practices would be booked under the Drug and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisement) Act, 1954. “Steps have been taken to save the life of common public and prevent them from harassment due to such misleading advertisements,” he said.
He claimed that some private practitioners and firms were openly violating the provisions of the Act.
He said such persons are misguiding the public for their personal benefits and directed the District Ayurvedic and Unani Officers-cum-Drug Inspectors to take strict action against such elements.
He said notices have been issued to 35 private ayurveda practitioners to immediately stop such objectionable advertisement and action has been pursued against them under the Drug and Magic Remedies (objectionable advertisement) Act.
The samples of 25 ayurvedic medicines were sent to Drug Testing Laboratory Patiala, he said.PTI
