Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Chennai Branch Office organised the BIS- Manak Manthan Programme on "Panchkarma Equipments and Traditional Medicine" in Chennai Today 31.08.2023 at Hotel Raj Park, Chennai. Nearly 100 Stakeholders of the subject matter attend the programme.
Director & Head (Chennai Branch Office) Smt. G Bhavani, explained the programme Objectives. She also stated that BIS has started organizing new series of discussion-programmes titled “Manak Manthan” for the benefits of industry which is scheduled on every month, and is envisaged to launch new standards and share important revisions/amendments and wide circulation drafts to local manufacturers, Industrial and Trade Bodies, Chambers of Commerce, Industry Associations, PSU’s or organizations who use such products, Government departments, Regulatory bodies, Laboratories, Civil society groups and Academia.
National Institute of Siddha, Professor Dr. I. Sangeetha is the Chief Guest and Dr. Ragavendra Naik, Research Officer (Ayurveda), Ayush Department & Dr. G. Kiruthiga, Research Officer (Siddha), Ayush Department were the Technical Speakers.
The Participants were informed that Panchakarma is a unique prophylactic as well as therapeutic procedure in Ayurveda. It is advocated for the radical elimination of the disease causing factors and to maintain the equilibrium of the doshas. The fivefold measures in this therapy include Vamana (Emesis), Virechana (Purgation), Anuvasana Vasti (Oil enema), Aasthapana Vasti (Decoction enema) and Nasya (Nasal insufflation). Panchakarma therapy is preceded by certain preparatory procedures including Snehana (Oleation) and Swedana (Sudation). The Samsarjana Karma is performed as a post-therapy procedure.

These Indian Standards ensure safety, hygiene, and efficacy of treatments. They promote uniformity in design, materials, and dimensions, enhancing practitioner and patient experience. Standards aid regulatory compliance, fostering trust in the industry. Overall, standardized ayurvedic equipments elevates the practice of Ayurvedic therapies, upholds traditional authenticity, and safeguards patient well-being in a structured and reliable manner.
The Participants include Manufacturers of Ayurvedic Medicines , Ayurvedic Drug Manufacturers, Researchers of Ayurvedic Sciences, Yoga and Naturopathy, Explorers of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants and other stakeholders.
